About Black Gold Farms
At their location in Live Oak, Black Gold Farms operates over two thousand acres of potatoes, peanuts, corn, and soybeans. With the main crop being potatoes, Mr. Thomas Ransom, farm manager, strives to keep the farm innovative by implementing sustainable and innovative practices. These include the use of soil moisture probes and injection metering pumps that improve water and nutrient efficiency. Their newly adopted method for growing potatoes in flat bed systems has reduced their water usage by 30%. Cody Darling, Regional Agronomy Manager, works closely with Thomas to ensure that the farm is both environmentally and economically sound. The farm partners with the UF/IFAS Research Center to conduct trials on water and Nitrogen use efficiency. Furthermore, the farm participates in its local community Ag Day.
The Florida Farm Bureau Federation is proud to award a 2023 CARES designation and sign to Black Gold Farms for their dedication in being outstanding environmental stewards.
