Harrell Tyree, Tyree Farm, Hamilton

Harrell Tyree and his family own and operate Tyree Farm in Jasper, Florida. The farm was started by Mr. Tyree’s grandfather in 1924. They proudly produce carrots, corn, peanuts and timber. Mr. Tyree has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm since 1994. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Tyree Farm uses a nutrient and irrigation management program to protect water quality and minimize the loss of nutrients to the environment. Soil moisture sensors are used to conserve water and apply the precise amount for water needed for the crops. Mr. Tyree also uses an Integrated Pest Management system throughout the farm to reduce farm expenses, conserve energy and protect the environment.

Mr. Tyree is actively involved in his local community, serving as a past county Farm Bureau president and manager of Suwannee River Peanut Company for 10 years. He is also a part of the local planning and zoning board and on the USDA Farm Service Agency Committee. He and his family attend New Hope Baptist Church in Jennings. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Tyree responded, “for future generations.”
