Jackie Langford, Langford and Family Farm, Gilchrist

Jackie and Eloise Langford own and operate Langford and Family Farm in Trenton, Florida. Langford and Family Farm was started in 1919, Jackie and his wife continue to operate it today. Langford and Family Farm is a family-run business with all members of the family having an active role in the prosperity of the farm. Langford keeps the family farm going by producing watermelons, cantaloupes, hay, corn, peanuts, rye, millet, and cattle. The Langford and Family Farm has implemented BMPs for the past 10 years. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Some of the BMPs that have been implemented include planting no-till corn, oats, and rye, as well as using drip irrigation to grow watermelons and cantaloupes.

Jackie and his wife are active in their community as member of the Farm Bureau and supporting the youth in 4-H and FFA. In 2013, the Langford family was recognized by the Gilchrist Cattlemen’s Association as the Cattlemen of the Year. When asked why it is important to protect our environment, they responded “It is good for the older people and helps the younger generation who want to farm and live a good healthy life.”
