Keith Morgan, Morgan & Washington Hay Farm, Hamilton
Keith Morgan and his family own and operate Morgan & Washington Hay Farm in Jasper, Florida. The farm was started 15 years ago on his father’s land. They proudly produce hay. Mr. Morgan has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm for over 15 years. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Mr. Morgan uses soil samples for proper fertilization and to minimize nonpoint source pollution risk on the land. Mr. Morgan uses a pivot irrigation system to conserve water. He also uses crop protection materials to control pests and alternates his crop protection tools to eliminate resistance that some pests may develop.
When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Morgan responded, “if you do not protect the environment it will go downhill. As farmers, it is our duty to protect the environment.”
