Kevin Morgan, Swift Creek Farm, Hamilton
Kevin Morgan and his family own and operate Swift Creek Farm in White Springs, Florida. The farm has been in the family for over 50 years and was started by his parents Hilward and Irene Morgan, in 1957. They proudly produce cattle, timber, row crops and hay. Mr. Morgan has been implementing a comprehensive nutrient management plan on the farm for decades. A nutrient management plan is a plan specific to the farm that addresses water quality, soil erosion and air emissions. Swift Creek Farm uses modern practices to determine fertilization for all crops and pasture. Mr. Morgan has taken proactive steps to fence off creeks and wetlands to keep cattle out of those environmentally sensitive areas. He has also installed several wells and drinking stations for cattle as an alternative to watering cattle in nearby creeks. Swift Creek Farm also utilizes a Forest Management Plan developed with the help of the Florida Forest Service.
Mr. Morgan is actively involved in his local community, serving as Chairman of the Board of Farmers Cooperative and a member of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau. Mr. Morgan and his family attend First Presbyterian Church in Jasper. When asked why he believed it is important to protect our environment, Morgan responded, “if we take care of the land properly, it will take care of us.”
